Miss Kamon’s class held its breath as they waited for the final bell to ring. It was the last day of school before summer vacation. Everyone was so excited that summer was almost here. Five more minutes and they would be free of their psychotic teacher. “Ok, so she really isn’t psychotic. But she sure does act like it,” thought fifteen year old Megan Matthews.
“Megan! Are you paying attention?” Miss Kamon wailed.
“Yes, Miss Kamon.” Megan mumbled.
“Oh, really, then you won’t mind explaining to me what I just said.”
“I don’t know,” she muttered quietly.
“Excuse me. But you need to speak up, I didn’t quite catch that.”
“I don’t know,” Megan said embarrassedly.
“That’s what I thought. Now pay attention,” snapped Miss Kamon. “Now as I was saying, I am being promoted to a tenth grade teacher. So you will all have me as your homeroom teacher again next year. So, this summer I want you to read my book list. There are ten novels and I would like at least a three page report for each novel. It does not matter the order with which you read them, as long as you read them. Now I will see you all next year. Have a good summer.” Miss Kamon finished.
The class stampeded out of the classroom into the hallway. Everyone flew to their lockers and out the door.
“Can you believe her!?” Megan’s friend Jamie said as they walked to the bus.
“Yea, I know. What kind of person assigns ten novels and book reports for over the summer?”
“An evil teacher,” Jamie said.
“Hey, let’s sit together on the bus,” said Megan. They climbed onto the bus.
“Afternoon, girls,” Mr. Gibbon said cheerfully, “have a handful of candy.”
Mr. Gibbon was their bus driver. He always had a couple of big bags of candy on the first and last day of school.
“At least we know one awesome adult that works for the school,” Jamie said smiling.
The two girls went to the back of the bus and sat down.
