Megan had always kept a diary since she was in the second grade. She had brought it with her on this trip. She had thought it would be to write down how much she hated being here. Today was the last day she was supposed to spend with her grandmother. Her last entry turned out differently than what she had thought it would at the beginning of the trip. Instead of what she had originally planned, she wrote:
I called Mom and Dad this morning. They got home from their business trip two days ago. They said I can stay! Yea! Sam and I get another month to be together. I’ll miss him, but Mom, Dad, and Grandma said we can come here for Christmas. Grandma and I painted my room earlier this afternoon. It looks great! I got the walls painted, new window curtains, a new bedspread, and a new lamp. None of it was really that expensive either.
I’ve really learned a lot about myself this summer. I never thought I would have this much fun. I think I’ve really grown up. I learned what’s really important in life; friends and family are what matters most to me. I’m going to miss being here. I don’t really want to go home. I can’t wait for next summer!
