Chapter 3

"Hey guys!" Autumn yelled to her friends the moment she stepped off of the bus. She ran to meet them, getting squashed in a group hug as soon as she reached them.
"I'm guessing you all missed me," she said laughing.
"Well yeah, we didn't get to see you much over the summer. You came to hardly any of the parties," Autumn's friend Jessica said.
"I know. Sorry about that. But you guys know my parents keep me home a lot, and I get sick so easily." Autumn said making up excuses as she went. She couldn't tell them that she spent a month in the hospital at one point.
"It's okay. The important thing is now that school's back, we'll see each other almost every day!" Amy, one of Autumn's other friends, squealed excitedly.
"Hey Autumn, there's Skyler," Jessica teased.
"Oh shut up!" Autumn replied.




"So have you missed me?" Skyler joked as Autumn rushed up, practically tackling him with a hug. He was proud of himself for managing to keep his cool with her so close.
"Of course I missed you. How could I not, you're one of my best friends," Autumn answered pulling away and feeling slightly dizzy.
"I know. I just wanted to make sure, and it's always nice to be reminded that we're so close," he said wishing that she hadn't mentioned their friendship. He also wished she hadn't pulled away. Just then, Autumn started swaying back and forth.
Skyler grabbed her, wrapping one of his arms around her waist. "Autumn! Are you okay?" Skyler said concerned, just as Amy and Jessica ran up screaming her name.
"Oh my gosh!! Autumn, are you all right?? Autumn!!" Jessica and Amy yelled.
"I-I'm f-f-fine. I j-just need to s-s-sit down," Autumn stuttered out.
"Go get the nurse," Skyler said to Jessica. She ran as fast as she could to the nurse's office. Skyler and Amy helped Autumn sit down on the curb. She leaned over resting her head in her hands.
"Amy, why don't you go to class. I'll keep an eye on her. There's no point in all of us being late to class," Skyler told Amy. She headed off to class once she made sure he had it under control.
Just as she left, Autumn leaned over and threw up onto the pavement in front of her. Skyler grabbed her hair out of her way and rubbed her back soothingly, just as Jessica arrived back with the nurse.
