Little Red Balloon

A little red balloon,

With a letter dangling from the string.

Floating up into the sky,

Drifting toward Heaven.

It is making a delivery there,

To a beloved angel.

A loved one from down here,

Decided to send this to you.

It is here to give you this message,

Filled with thoughts and dreams.

Filled with broken promises,

And feelings left unsaid.

So here we go,

Pull up a cozy cloud.

Just listen and read,

As you drift along.

We all miss you down here below,

We do not understand why you left us.

I guess God needed another angel,

And decided you would be one of the best.

But you left before some things were handled,

Before promises were fulfilled.

You left before we were ready,

Even though we never would have been.

You made some promises to me,

Before you left us down here.

You never kept them,

You left before you could keep them.

You promised you would be there,

On my high school graduation day.

You never even got to see,

My grade school graduation.

You promised you would be there,

When I got my very first deer.

You were not even there,

For my very first hunting day.

You promised you would be there,

When the dating game began.

You never met my first boyfriend,

Or got to beat him with your cane.

You promised you would be there,

On my wedding day.

That is a long time from now,

But you still said you would be there.

Even though you broke these promises,

I love you anyway.

I will think of you every time,

A day a promise should have been kept rolls around.

You will never get to see,

Who I turn out to be.

You never got to hear my dreams,

After I made more realistic ones.

It just does not seem fair,

That God would take you away.

Leaving behind your family,

Before the grandkids were fully grown.

We all love you,

And miss you every day.

We will love you always,

And will see you again someday.

So this was my message,

With all of its thoughts and feelings,

And broken promises mentioned,

Filled with sorrow and love.

And just maybe this will reach you,

As you go about your days in Heaven.

Just maybe this letter will reach you,
